«TRANSPORT PROBLEMS 2021» CONNECTS SCIENTISTS OF TRANSPORT SECTOR 

On June 28-30, 2021, the XIII International Scientific Conference Transport Problems 2021 and the X Symposium of Young Scientists were held at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. This year, the two events were linked due to the pandemic situation. As every year, the conference is a platform for the exchange of knowledge of scientists carrying out research related to the widely understood scientific discipline Civil engineering and transport. During the above-mentioned events, papers that perfectly fit into the priority research area: Smart Cities, Mobility of the Future were also successfully presented.  The conference was held ONLINE via the Zoom messenger and YouTube channel. 

The plenary session of the conference took place at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering and was opened by the conference coordinator and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee, prof. Aleksander Sładkowski. Then the welcome speech to the conference participants was delivered by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Habil. Eng. Arkadiusz Mężyk and the Mayor of Katowice Dr. Eng. Marcin Krupa, because the Conference is being held under the patronage of the Mayor of Katowice and the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology. Speech delivered by the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Development, Labor and Technology, dr. hab. Robert Tomanek, prof. UE aroused the particular interest of conference participants.

The plenary session was attended by leading scientists from Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, and Poland as well as representatives. Road Traffic Department of the Police, Provincial Road Transport Inspection and Transport Department of the Katowice City Hall. The papers of an outstanding scientist dealing with ecology problems in transport, prof. Alexander Rachmangulov from the Magnitogorsk State Technical University in Russia and the scientific director of the Institute of Rail Vehicle Operation in Leipzig, prof. Wolfgang Rösch. The conference participants received a similar response from Dr. hab. Eng. Jarosław Kozuba, prof. Of the Silesian University of Technology and the speech of prof. Asen Asenov from the University of Ruse, Bulgaria.

As every year, the chairman of the organizing committee, Grzegorz Wojnar, invited the participants of the plenary session for a trip, which, however, this time took place virtually and concerned the scientific activities of the Silesian University of Technology. In the following days, eight sections were held that dealt with topics covering all modes of transport, including modern technologies for freight and passenger transport, aspects of transport infrastructure development, industry management, freight forwarding and logistics. The achievements of young scientists were presented in papers at two separate sessions.

To sum up, it can be said that the XIII International Scientific Conference and the X Symposium of Young Scientists, held under the common name of "Transport Problems", ended with unquestionable success. The conference organizers invite all scientists and practitioners interested in exchanging experiences in this discipline to the next edition next year. It will take place in a mixed traditional-remote mode on 27.06–01.07.2022. We hope to meet you directly.
